Practical Ways to Have Fun in Your Life!

Practical Ways to Have Fun Again

It’s easy for someone to tell you to have fun and hey you may even know that yes you want to have fun in your life!

But, actually knowing how to have fun and then including it in your life is an entirely different matter.

Especially when you have a billion things on your to-do-list, you have a job to do, children to look after, people to see, things to do, places to be!

Where is the time for fun?

Because surely ‘fun’ is frivolous, you need to be making sure the serious stuff gets done and paid attention to.

As adults it feels like we’ve been programmed to not be allowed to have fun.

Perhaps you don’t think you deserve to have fun?

You feel guilty when you do?

Because there’s so much that’s bad in the world what does it say about you if you have fun?!

Or you may be having a not so great time in your life and it’s difficult to even think about fun, let alone actually having some of it in your life.

It could be that you feel awkward experiencing fun and you’re worried about what others will think.

The Importance of Fun

Having fun is essential, crucial, of the utmost importance.

Without it we become, well, less fun.

Dare I say it, even boring?!

Or we find that we slide into depression, sadness, guilt. Often finding it difficult to pull ourselves out of it.

Having fun helps with your mental health.

It also helps with your emotional well-being.

The benefits of having fun are many including, but not limited to the following:

  • More joy and happiness in your life
  • A renewed zest for life
  • Reduced stress
  • Better able to manage stress and difficult times
  • Improved relationships with yourself and with others
  • Increased and longer lasting energy!
  • Enhanced feeling of well-being, of feeling good
  • Improved memory and better ability to focus
  • Sleep more soundly
  • More mental energy and ability – less time worrying, and stressing equals more time for the enjoyable and fun things in life.

Practical Ways to Have Fun, to Laugh and to Enjoy Your Life

So, now we’ve agreed that fun is necessary, how do you go about incorporating it into your life?

On a regular basis.

You must pay attention to making things fun. Fun in terms of enjoying and embracing your life.

So, you feel good.

So, you can help others around you feel good.

1:        Whenever you aspire to be something, or to do something, look around you for examples of where that is already happening. Model that behaviour until it feels natural to you.

2:        Spend time with people who make you laugh, who also enjoy themselves and are at ease with themselves.

3:        Smile! Sounds simple but it’s harder than you think, especially if you’re not in the best of moods! However you are feeling, whatever you are doing, whoever you are with, smile, smile, smile!

4:        Make time for activities that you find fun, that you enjoy. Do not put them off because they seem unimportant, or not as important as something else. Put them in your diary and stick to doing them, no excuses!

5:        Watch funny films, tv shows, YouTube videos, anything that makes you laugh and feel good.

6:        Get together with friends and have Games’ Nights. Yes, there will be disputes and heated discussion, what’s a Games’ Night without disputes and heated discussions?! But they will be in the name of fun, laughter and enjoyment!

7:        Check out comedians in your area, go to a comedy show. There are many different levels of comedy and humour, it’s important to find what resonates with you otherwise you may well not be laughing!

8:        Commit to laughing every single day. Not just the once, many times even if you are feeling far from laughing. Commit to it and do it.

9:        Don’t take yourself too seriously. Be prepared to laugh at yourself, to not take things personally, to go with the flow. When you want to do something but you’re afraid it may make you look silly, or feel awkward, do it anyway! The benefits will far outweigh those feelings.

10:      If you are not enjoying any part of your life find ways in which to change it.
